The Emblem: The official emblem for United Methodist Women as well as for The United Methodist Church combines the cross and the flame. The cross and flame are ancient symbols of Christ and Pentecost. The shape of the emblem is fluid and free flowing, suggesting change and mobility. "...I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you." (II Timothy 1:6a NEB) Our heritage is one of sacrifice, witness and service. The emblem serves as a continuing reminder of both opportunity and obligation.
The Purpose: The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and experience freedom as whole person through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; to reach out serve our community; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
United Methodist Women is an organization dedicated to fulfilling the spiritual fellowship and service-oriented needs of Christian women. This is accomplished through many different groups in the organization. An executive committee composed of chairpersons from each group meets monthly to coordinate activities. Programs are offered monthly at a general meeting for all groups. Several fund-raising events are held each year, although such is not our main concern. We carry on connectional programs from local to district to conference to national groups. Our members' individual pledges go to the National and World Missions programs of the United Methodist Church. We heartily support and work for community programs also. A person need not be a member of the United Methodist Church to be a part of this organization. We welcome you and urge you to visit any and all groups that might fit your interests and needs.

Remember to stock up on your Gift to Mission cards so you will be prepared for special occasions. You can order them through your unit treasurer or purchase them at district and conference events. Your unit will receive credit for your purchase—and the $5.00 per card all goes to mission giving. Sounds like a ―win-win to me! Have a wonderful 2011. Thank you for all you do.
